Surviving the Wedding Fayre Season: As a Bride & Groom

Wedding fayres... Love them or hate them.... January to April is prime wedding fayre season as couples who got engaged at Christmas, New Year or Valentines begin making plans for their big day!

There will be at least one wedding fayre taking place every weekend (mostly Sunday’s) between January & April in your local area, so there are more than enough to choose from.... although a piece of advice, as much as they can be exciting, don’t go to all of them as this will just simply confuse you and you will just bump into the same suppliers over and over again!

My top tip would be to choose at least 1 large fayre to attend such as the NEC or the I Do Shows – go as a group and make a day of it! (Guys you might want to steer clear of this one unless you are feeling very brave as these fayres are very busy and predominantly full of ladies!)

If the venue where you are getting married hosts its own wedding fayre, make sure you add this one to your list as it’s likely to be full of trusted suppliers who know your wedding venue well.

Then choose another 2-3 local wedding fayres that are taking place at hotels or venues near to where you live or to the area you are planning on getting married in... This will ensure that the suppliers you are talking to are local and hopefully know your wedding venue, as this is always a bonus!

Choose carefully; think about who is hosting the fayre and where it is taking place, this usually reflects the type of suppliers who will be exhibiting... for example, a beautiful stately home will have suppliers exhibiting who are traditional and offer a high end quality service.

Before attending any wedding fayre, think about what you want to get out of it, is it to...

A) Find and book certain supplier(s)

B) Find inspiration & Ideas

As you are walking around looking at all the exhibitions, keep focused on why you are there... it’s very easy to get caught up watching the fashion show and tasting cake samples (even though you already have your cake maker booked!)

Remember that ultimately the suppliers are there to try to sell their product or service to you... As lovely as something might be ask yourself, does it fit within the theme/style of your day, do you need or want it and most importantly can you afford it?

Do try to come away with something from every fayre that will contribute towards your big day, even if it is as simple as a decision made that you do definitely want chair covers for example!

But most of all, remember that planning a wedding is fantastic fun and visiting wedding fayres is just part of that fun.... so enjoy!

As I begin 2012... it's nice to have a quick look back over last year...

I had the privilege of working with 22 amazing couples, all of whom celebrated their wedding day during 2011...

They each chose a planning package that I tailored to suit their individual requirements, but the most popular packages still remain Full Coordination and On-the-day Coordination.

Although most of these couples live in the Midlands in the UK, a number of my couples were from different parts of the world, including Shanghai and Thailand... they all had the same thing in common... they had chosen to celebrate their wedding day in the Midlands, England.

It was an honour to coordinate these weddings at such beautiful venues... including The Peak Edge Hotel , The Maynard, Aston Hall, Prestwold Hall and Thrumpton Hall to name but a few... and I really look forward to working with many of these venues again this year.

Not only was 2011 the year of the Royal Wedding... it was also the year I married the man of my dreams!

It really was the best day of our lives!! With thanks to our venue Hodsock Priory and on-the-day coordinator Joy from Unique Wedding Planning who together made sure I switched off from wedding planner mode and enjoyed my day as the bride!!

2011 was also the year that I launched The Wedding Planning College with Joy, which offers training and guidance to those wanting to follow in my wedding planning footsteps, the college is going from strength to strength and I look forward to meeting lots of new delegates this year...

And just when I thought the year couldn't get much better... I found out I had won Best Wedding Planner East Midlands at the Wedding Industry Awards!!
What a fantastic end to a fantastic year!

What a fantastic start to the year.... to find out that I have won Best Wedding Planner East Midlands at the Wedding Industry Awards, which means I am now a finalist for the National Award... Best Wedding Planner UK! How exciting!

It is the biggest compliment and fills me with pride to know that the couples I have worked with during 2010 and 2011 have voted for me... I beat off the 5 other regional entrants to claim the title Best Wedding Planner East Midlands!

The awards are taking place in London on the 18th of January and the national winners will be announced live on stage! Wish me luck...

Sarah & Tom's Wedding - 23rd July 2011

The lovely Sarah & Tom celebrated their marriage on Saturday at the gorgeous Endsor Church on the Chatsworth Estate, Derbyshire.... then as their guests enjoyed the trip on the Vintage Bus to The Maynard for the reception, the newly weds took a little detour to capture a few photos making the most of the beautiful setting!

I had been working with Sarah & Tom on a part planning package, when we met they had already found the perfect venue and a number of suppliers, but now needed help pulling the rest of the plans together. As they lived in London, it was even more difficult for them to spend time in Derbyshire sourcing local suppliers...

As I was local to the area, I already knew great, reliable suppliers who could provide everything else they needed for their big day.

The day arrived and the sun shone.... it was such a gorgeous day, Sarah looked amazing and their guests had lots of fun.... It was pleasure to be a part of!

Well, we did it! Jon and I got married on the 1st of July at the gorgeous Hodsock Priory

Engagement Photo Shoot

Two of my lovely couples have recently had their engagement photo shoots. Something that most photographers now offer as part of their packages and not only does it mean the couple receive a gorgeous framed photo for their guests to sign at the wedding but it also allows the photographer to learn about how the couple are in front of the camera in preparation for the day...

Coincidentally both couples have chosen the same photographer Becki from Red Square (one of my personal favourites, I must say!)

Jo & Neal celebrate their big day at the gorgeous Colwick Hall on the 10th of September - They are in my capable hands from now until the day as they have taken advantage of my on-the-day coordination service. I must apologise for the lack of blog posts recently! This has been my busiest year to date, so far I have coordinated 13 weddings and still have another 8 this year, the majority of these have taken place between April and September... So it’s been a very busy summer!

The weddings I have been working on this year and still currently working on for the rest of this year and next year range from full coordination packages to on-the-day coordination and everything else in between!

It’s so fantastic as every single wedding is unique and reflects the style of the couple and their chosen venue and theme, each new couple I meet, brings new ideas, venues and suppliers...

I can honestly say, I love my job!

I promise to write at least one new blog post each week to keep you all updated on what I am up to... Thanks for reading and Happy Planning!

Wedding Planner Hires a Wedding Planner!

It was my own wedding a few weeks ago on the 1st of July and being a planner I knew exactly what I wanted and exactly where to find it! The planning was the easy part, it was only when my husband-to-be mentioned that he was worried about me not being able to relax and enjoy the day as I would be in ‘planner’ mode instead of being the bride...

The on-the-day coordination service is one of my most popular services as it gives brides who are happy to do all the planning the peace of mind that all their hard work pays off allowing them to relax and enjoy a stress free perfect day, knowing that I have everything under control.

I needed an on-the-day coordinator!

Joy, my partner at The Wedding Planning College kindly offered to be my on-the-day coordinator! The first thing to do was to have a final run through meeting at the venue, to ensure Joy and the venue manager knew all the timings and what each supplier should be doing. Just unloading all this information, which currently only me and my wedding file knew (as I’m a bit of a control freak!) was a great feeling.

Even knowing that Joy would be there, I still wondered if I would be able to completely relax and switch off from being a planner and enjoy my day as a bride...

But I did! It was the most amazing day ever and I didn’t worry for one second as I knew Joy was there.

Royal Wedding

To celebrate the much talked about forthcoming Royal Wedding one of my local schools is planning a Royal Wedding celebration of their very own....

Edale Primary School in Derbyshire contacted me a few months ago and asked if I wanted to be involved and help them with the plans for their Royal Wedding!

After weeks of planning and hard work from the staff, students, parents and the local villagers the school is ready to celebrate their royal wedding tomorrow, which coincides with the last day of term, so they will certainly be going out with a bang!

At 10.30am tomorrow two of the school children who are playing the part of bride & groom will 'get married' at Edale Church with the ceremony being conducted by the actual vicar!

Throughout the morning the children and staff will act out an actual wedding complete with the bridal preparations, the arrival of the bride and her father, the ceremony, giving of the rings, readings and hymns, throwing of the confetti then after the ceremony the wedding party will head back to the school for the wedding breakfast complete with a top table, decorations, favours, speeches and the cutting of the cake!

As Edale Primary school is one of the smallest schools in Derbyshire, all the children will have a part to play at the wedding - there Will be a bride, groom, bridesmaids, father of the bride etc....

My job as their wedding planner was to arrange a photographer to attend and capture the day to include the bridal preparations, the ceremony and the traditional group shots. A very talented wedding photographer agreed to get involved, Mark from Tierney Photography will be the official Royal wedding photographer! It is then my job to make sure everything is in place ready for the big day and I will also be acting a chauffeur, driving the bride and her father to the Church then the bride and groom to the reception!

I am also very excited as I have arrange for both Sky News and The Derbyshire Times to cover the event! How exciting!

I will be posting an update including photos after the Royal Wedding which takes place at Edale School on Friday the 15th of April......

Mikaela & Brett's Wedding - 1st April 2011

It was my first wedding of the year on Friday... And what a perfect day it was! I had been working with Mikaela & Brett for over a year on a full coordination package. When I first met them, all they had booked was their venue Prestwold Hall and photographer Dave Nunn so it was my job to help them arrange everything else.

Mikaela had a clear idea on the style and colours she wanted to work with so we got cracking...
I suggested suitable suppliers who could provide everything that they needed from flowers to the entertainement for the children...
The day soon arrived and the weather was on our side!

The Wedding Planning College

After being inundated with requests for instant advice & practical training, Joy Hersey-Todd (from Unique Wedding Planning) & myself, have joined forces to launch The Wedding Planning College.

There will be few weddings as prestigious as Prince William & Kate Middleton, but with the number of weddings expected to increase, it won’t only be the rich & famous that will look to hire the services of a wedding planner. However, wedding planning is unregulated & there are no mandatory qualifications required to set-up a wedding planning business.

WHAT DOES THE WEDDING PLANNING COLLEGE OFFER?

The Wedding Planning College prides itself on offering real, honest & professional advice through training events, personal mentoring & long term business support. The graduates from the college will be encouraged to become part of an on-going network that aims to bring best practice to their businesses.

Watching films such as The Wedding Planner can sometimes paint an inaccurate picture of what’s really involved in planning the most important day in someone’s life. This kind of romantic media results in many people aspiring to wedding planning as their dream job.... which it can be ... but it’s also a lot of hard work, both emotionally & physically!

Joy & I will personally mentor people to achieve their dream but our support will be based on practical learning & experience. We believe that as established and trading wedding planners we can offer real training & advice to enable people to become successful planners.

WHERE & WHEN WILL THE TRAINING TAKE PLACE?
Using the fabulous training facilities, on the 6th Floor of the new CASA Hotel, in Chesterfield, we aim to attract people from all over the UK to our “Train to Plan” two day training events. Each event will take place over a weekend and includes a mixture of factual based learning, individual exercises, group activities & guest speakers, from the industry. Joy & I will guide & mentor delegates through each session, offering honest advice, sharing real examples and working with individuals to inspire their own wedding planning business development.

WHAT TRAINING & BUSINESS SUPPORT IS AVAILABLE?
Training sessions will include “Setting up a wedding planning business” & “How to plan & coordinate a Wedding”. The first ones are due to be held on the 1st/2nd October & the 5th/ 6th November. There are opening offers for the first 16 delegates. Please check the website for details:

Niamh's 6th Birthday Party

I had lots of fun on Sunday at Niamh's 6th Birthday Party at The Red Lion in Chesterfield.

We hired their gorgeous new Orangery and arranged for a delicious children's buffet complete with Jelly & Ice Cream!

The Great Lorenzo's Magic Circus (including a real rabbit!) entertained the children... and adults for hours! Here he is...

Denise's Big Birthday Party - The White Enchanted Ball - 27th November 2010

I had the pleasure of working with the lovely Denise designing and creating the perfect party for her special birthday in November.

Her theme was black, white and 'bling' and my job was to source all the decorative items including chair covers, table linens, centrepieces etc... that complemented the theme.

The venue was a blank canvas but had a low dark ceiling which had to go - so we covered it 450 white balloons and it completely transformed the room!

Denise decided upon tall illuminated vases filled with white feathers as her centrepieces, these added height to the tables and looked great when the lights were on!

On the day, I arrived to oversee the set-up and to put the finishing touches to the tables and the room itself.

It did look fantastic, even if I do say so myself!

Lucy & Duncan's Wedding - 29th December 2010

Congratulations to Lucy & Duncan who celebrated their big day at the beautiful Shottle Hall on Wednesday. It was a beautiful, cold and misty day just how the bride and groom wanted it! The fires were lit in the lounge as guests waited for the ceremony to begin. There wasn't a dry eye in the house as their two daughters walked down the aisle in front of the bride! Lucy looked sensational in her Ian Stuart gown and cathedral length veil.

2010... The Highlights

2010 has been my best year yet! I have worked with 24 amazing couples who all celebrated their big day during the last 12 months.

Each couple, regardless of the planning package they chose all benefited from on-the-day coordination, knowing I was there all day with everything under control, allowing them to relax and enjoy the day!
I have had the pleasure of working with couples from America, Canada and all different parts of the UK who all decided to celebrate their big day in the Midlands. And who can blame them as Derbyshire is home to some of the country’s most beautiful venues.

The venues my clients chose included country manor houses, boutique hotels and marquees (and a tee-pee in the middle of a field!) in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire.

My client’s budgets ranged from £6000 - £45000 and guest numbers from 40 to nearly 300!

No two weddings this year have looked the same, even if they took place at the same venue, as I encouraged my clients to design their own unique day.

The most popular colours this year have been green, purple and orange and the biggest wedding cake was over 5ft tall!

My busiest month was September with four weddings taking place!

I was also a guest at four weddings this year, which was a welcome change to enjoy the day from the other side...

I have booked in my most difficult bride for 2011 – ME! Jon and I got engaged during the summer of 2010 and have already started to make plans for our big day....

2011 is already looking great as I'm currently working with 15 couples busy making arrangements for their 2011 and 2012 weddings

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the amazing couples, talented suppliers and beautiful venues I have worked with during 2010, it's been a great year!

I am very excited to be planning my own wedding for July next year! I have decided to design and create my own wedding stationary to add a personal touch and also to save money!

I have always loved the idea of sending save the date cards, not only from a practical point of view to let guests know the date well in advance but also to give guests the first indication to the theme of the whole wedding...

Sandra & Richard's Wedding - 29th October 2010

After marrying in South Africa in September, Sandra & Richard celebrated with a blessing and reception on Friday at the beautiful Colwick Hall in Nottingham with all their friends and family.

I have been working with Sandra for just under a year, offering support and advice throughout to ensure everything was organised for both their celebrations.

Sandra was keen to have an active part in her wedding plans and I was very impressed with all the flowers that she made herself... costing a tenth of the quotes we had received from different florists!

The wedding blessing and reception on Friday was beautiful, the day ran very smoothly and Sandra, Richard and their guests had a wonderful day.

I received a lovely message from the Sandra the following day "Excellent work! Lisa couldn't have done it without you, thank you once more!"

It was a pleasure working with Sandra and I am so pleased with how well the day came together.

The ultra purple colour worked perfectly in the stylish Grand Ballroom at Colwick Hall. A huge thank you to Claudia from Cocoon Creations for providing the sashes...

Kate & James Wedding - 4th September 2010

Congratulations to Kate & James who married on Saturday in the beautiful Clayworth Church, followed by a magnificent marquee reception in their own back garden!

Meeting Kate & James over a year ago it was clear their day was going to be something special and they needed my help with ideas, finding the right suppliers and making their plans come to life.

Everything came together over the next year and it was the finishing touches that really made their day special. We even managed to find some fantastic caterers who were able to create a bespoke menu using produce from the bride & groom's farm!

Rachael & Jason's Wedding - 28th August 2010

A massive congratulations to Rachael & Jason who married on Saturday at the beautiful church in Barlow, Chesterfield followed by a reception at the contemporary Sheffield Park Hotel.

Rachael & Jason took advantage of my On-The-Day Coordination service to ensure they could relax and enjoy their day knowing everything was under control. Rachael was a girl after my own heart - ultra organised and thoroughly enjoyed the planning process, first meeting over two years ago when they reserved their date and after a few suggestions to get them started I left them to it. Then in June this year we got back together to finalise all the arrangements.

Rachael chose the striking modern colour scheme of black and ivory which complemented their choice of venue perfectly. Bird cage centrepieces filled with orchids and stylish orchid and Calla lily bouquets were the perfect choice.

A huge thank you to the wonderful suppliers... It's always a pleasure to work with you!

Fiona & Steve's Wedding - 30th July 2010

Congratulations to Fiona & Steve who married on Friday at Chellaston Church, Derby followed by a reception at Makeney Hall Hotel.

I begun working With Fiona & Steve over a year ago, they had already visited many wedding venues but needed help with selecting the one that would fit their budget and requirements.

They had a total wedding budget that they had to stick to so I created a budget breakdown to manage costs.

Fiona's chosen colour scheme was ivory, caramel and chocolate brown and I suggested local suppliers that would complement their style and budget.

I also accompanied Fiona and her bridesmaids to local bridal boutiques that I recommended where we found the perfect dress!

Here are a selection of photos that I took during the set-up on the morning of the wedding. The chocolate brown and ivory colour scheme complemented the conservatory at Makeney Hall perfectly. Official photos captured by Andy Cunningham will be added to my gallery pages soon...

From the storyboard to the actual day...

Once a wedding is complete I love to look back to the original storyboard that I created which shows the bride & grooms initial ideas on colours, style and decor to see how the concept has developed into their wedding day.

Here is the storyboard I created for my clients Nafeesa & Paul over a year ago - their brief was for their wedding to be very contemporary, including striking colours such as bright orange, black and white and incorporating orange gerbera flowers and individual black & white cakes!

And here is the end result....

As you can see we used black candelabras with complimentary black, white and orange table stationary. Black damask table runners that I made and splashes of orange on the tables with gerbera heads and ribbons around the napkins.

The black and white individual cakes decorated with orange gerbera heads looked amazing!

Caitlin & Jeff's Wedding - 9th July 2010

Congratulations to Caitlin & Jeff who celebrated their marriage at Ringwood Hall Hotel on Friday. Their guests made the most of what was one of the hottest days of the year whilst the chocolate fountain and white chocolate cake tried their best not to melt!!

Caitlin & Jeff took advantage of an On-The-Day Coordination package, handing all their arrangements over to me two months before their big day so they could relax and enjoy the run up whilst I liaised with the venue and suppliers to ensure everything was set for a perfect day.
The highlight of the day for me was definitely the ceremony taking place outside, although we did have a room set up ready inside the hotel just in case!!

Nafeesa & Paul's Wedding - 4th July 2010

Their wedding day on the 4th of July 2010 was actually seven years to the day that Nafeesa & Paul started dating! So a very special anniversary in more ways than one.

Nafeesa & Paul live in Canada and decided to return to their hometown of Derby to celebrate their marriage, they first got in touch with me about eighteen months ago to begin planning their big day, starting with a venue search and after I suggested numerous options they set their heart on Shottle Hall Country House Hotel, and who could blame them, It's beautiful! Back in Canada, they put the rest of their wedding plans into my capable hands, through many emails it all came together in time for their return to the UK a month before the wedding where we finalised all the details.

It was an absolute pleasure working on behalf of Nafeesa & Paul, their day was perfect! I wish them all the best for their future as they head back to Canada to enjoy married life!

Here is the storyboard I created for my clients Tara & Matt over a year ago - their brief was for their wedding to include pinks & greens, lots of roses, green bridesmaid dresses and a white marquee with a twinkle ceiling!

And here is the end result....

Tara & Matt's wedding reception was held in the large white marquee at Colwick Hall on the 24th of April 2010. We had scraped the pink colour and decided to use sage green throughout. Tara's bridesmaids wore full length sage green dresses and the tables were decorated with silver candelabras and lots of ivory avalanche roses. And instead of a twinkle ceiling they had a black twinkle wall for the evening reception!

They enjoyed their engagement photo shoot with Becki from Red Square Photography last week at Elvaston Castle, Derby. A beautiful location to capture some amazing photos... Here is my favourite!

Nafeesa & Paul have chosen their favourite photo too which will be framed for their guests to sign around at their wedding. It's going to be a wonderful day... I can't wait!

Kerry & Lee's Wedding - 12th June 2010

Congratulations to Kerry & Lee who celebrated their wedding in a Teepee Tent at Ashover, Derbyshire on Saturday.

It was an amazing day! The sun was shining whilst guests enjoyed the BBQ and the Rodeo Bull! Then partying into the early hours breaking only for the hot pie & pea supper!

The Teepee Tents from Papakata are an magnificent alternative to a standard marquee. They set the scene for Kerry & Lee's day, complete with the open fire pit inside and the hay bails outside. The Teepees were decorated with flowers and hand made stationary created by the bride Kerry. The beautiful flowers were designed by Soraya Moore Floral Design and complemented the theme perfectly! One of my personal favourite cake makers, Candy from Love Candy Cakes created an amazing Teepee wedding cake and cookie favours!

The evening reception had a great atmosphere as it fell on the first England game of the World Cup! I managed to arrange a TV so the game could be shown live, we created a chill out area in one area of the tents so the footy fans could enjoy the game! Overall a fantastic day!! It was a real pleasure working with Kerry & Lee to design, plan and coordinate their wedding, everything came together over the last 12 months to create their unique and personal day! I wish you all the best for the future, Lisa xx

Apparently there were an article in the Daily Mirror last week about a bridesmaid who had asked for cash as a gift from the bride and groom, this then sparked off the discussion!

Maria & Richard's Wedding - 30th May 2010

Congratulations to Maria & Richard who had travelled from their home in America to celebrate their marriage in Derbyshire on Sunday. After a ceremony at the Old Brampton Church, Chesterfield (which included a fantastic performance from the choir Dale Diva) guests then enjoyed the picturesque journey through the peak district to the reception at the Maynard, Grindleford. The perfect setting for their 'English Countryside' themed day!

During the drinks reception guests enjoyed champagne and canapes in the garden whilst Simply Strings performed. Dinner was then served (including local favourite... Bakewell pudding!) followed by an evening of entertainment from Ceilidh band Govannen. The dance floor was never empty as the caller encouraged the guests to partake in English country dancing! It looked great fun!

As you can see the 'English County' theme really works in the panelled ballroom, with the distressed lime wash chairs and the mis-match china full of wild flowers.

The beautiful cake with sugar flowers that matched the brides bouquet was created by Love Candy Cakes.

Marlies & Daan's Wedding - 30th April 2010

Congratulations to the new Mr & Mrs Dousi!

Marlies & Daan celebrated their wedding day on Friday at Colwick Hall inside the stunning Grand Ballroom.

Arriving on a horse and carriage- just in time before it started to rain!!

After a beautiful ceremony their guests enjoyed drinks and wedding cake in the lounge whilst I helped the staff to re-set the Ballroom ready for the wedding breakfast.

It was an extra special day for Marlies & Daan, not only was it 10 years to the day they had met but it was also the queens birthday in the Netherlands, a national holiday and a day that you can't marry there. Originally from the Netherlands, Marlies & Daan shared there day with family and friends who had made an extra effort to travel to the UK to celebrate.

Therefore they now share their wedding anniversary with the queen!

As you can see from the photos, the inspiration for their day was taken from all things Dutch... the colour orange, tulips and the ornaments used to decorate the cake and as favours and place cards.

It was a fantastic day and they were a wonderful couple to work with!

The highlights of the day for me was definitely the group shot using the orange umbrellas (I can't wait to see that photo!) and the first dance, Marlies & Daan had been practicing and it was great to watch!

I do have some very creative brides.... look what they have been up to!

Nafeesa, who gets married to Paul in July has designed and made her own wedding invitations... They are fantastic and complement their wedding style and theme perfectly! I can't wait to see the rest of the stationary...

My bride & Groom, Emily & Christian got all creative before their wedding day last October and made their own seating plan and guests names which we tied to the napkins, Beautiful!

My latest bride to get creative is Kerry, she has been busy making her own invitations... She also has big plans for a very different seating plan... Watch this space!!

Congratulations to Tara and Matt who celebrated their wedding day in the sunshine on Saturday in the Lakeside Marquee at Colwick Hall.
It was great to see 18 months of planning come together for what was a perfect day! Along with their guests, Tara & Matt enjoyed the surprise Bag Piper who welcomed them into the marquee and partied into the early hours with the fabulous Bootleggers band!

Maria & Richard's Engagement shoot - Simon Revill

Maria & Richard are the first of my clients this year to experience their engagement photo shoot.... As Maria & Richard live in America and are marrying in Derbyshire in May, this was the perfect opportunity to meet with their wedding photographer for the first time. I had presented numerous local photographer options to them last year and they decided to book Simon Revill as they loved the look of his work.
After a short meeting to discuss details for the day, Simon whisked them off to Sutton Scarsdale Hall for their photo shoot. The rain stopped just in time for Simon to get some fantasic shots!

I can't wait to see the results of the wedding day photographs....

Maria & Richard's wedding takes place on the 30th of May at the Maynard Grindleford.... I am positive that their overseas guests will fall in love with the venue and its location!

After two more supplier appointments I have scheduled for tomorrow, it's off home for Maria & Richard until they return the week of their wedding.... leaving everything in my capable hands!

I was invited to the Rutland Arms Hotel in Bakewell yesterday to take part in the filming of the new series of Channel 5's the Hotel Inspector! Along with two other local wedding planners, I was met by the presenter, Alex Polizzi and asked to comment on the newly renovated ballroom and to give advice to the owner on how to encourage more weddings at the hotel.

The room did look great!

I organised a different type of event on Saturday.... My boyfriends Surprise 30th Birthday Party! Not quite as glamorous as the events I usually arrange but still a fantastic night!

Jon was surprised to see his face everywhere at the party.... As I had masks made of him for his friends to wear!

The masks are a great idea for any party, event or even a wedding reception.... Imagine face masks of the bride and groom for their guests to wear! And not forgetting stag and hen parties.... Great Fun!!

'Fancie' a Cup Cake...?

I love it when Amanda from Fancie is exhibiting alongside me at a wedding fayre as I get to eat another one (or three) of her delicious cup cakes!

Myself and Amanda were exhibiting at the Leopold Hotel wedding fayre on Sunday.... And much to my delight there were a few cup cake samples left at the end of the day and I couldn't see them go to waste!

I have now completed all the weddings of 2009... It has been a great year and a pleasure to have worked with so many lovely couples. Each wedding has been beautiful yet individual and captured the dreams and the personalities of the bride and groom. I must say the year has flown by and 2010 is fast approaching! I am very busy working with all the couples who's weddings are due to take place next year, many of whom I have already been working with through much of 2009 and are now in the final stages of planning.

What a great way to make an entrance to your wedding.... Flying in over head in a helicopter and landing beside the church or reception venue! Especially if your guests don't know... what a surprise!

I met with two of the pilots from Staffordshire Helicopters at Shottle Hall open day on Saturday. After watching them perform an amazing landing on a small piece of grass directly next to the venue they gave me a tour of the helicopter...

Sweet Treats!

Emily wanted to create a sweet station at her wedding reception as an alternative to the traditional savory evening buffet. Their wedding breakfast took place late afternoon therefore a selection of 'sweet treats' were just what their guests fancied later on!

To create the sweet station we used a selection of different shaped vases, jugs and bowls as well as a few vintage tea cups, saucers and side plates to add interest. Emily chose their favourite chocolates and sweets then whilst they were enjoying their wedding breakfast I started to arrange the sweet station. Coloured ribbons were attached to the scoops and around some of the jugs to tie in the colour scheme and customised striped paper sweet bags were provided for guests to fill!

The sweet station was a huge hit with their guests and there wasn't so much as a jelly bean left by the end of the night!

I love this idea.... definitely one to remember!

Congratulations to Lorna & Bob who celebrated their marriage on Friday the 23rd of October 2009 with a blessing at St Peter's Church, Chellaston followed by a reception at Breadsall Priory Hotel & Country Club in Derby.

Lorna, Bob and most of their family and friends had flown in from America in time for the big day. Spending the few days before making the most of their trip to England with a special visit to Chatsworth House and Gardens...

The inspiration for Lorna & Bob's wedding was taken from all things English and developed throughout the time we have been working together.
Everything from the traditional pub for their rehearsal dinner to the beautiful flowers that looked like they had been handpicked from the garden complimented the theme.

The day was fantastic. Everything came together perfectly, with thanks to the Hotel staff and the suppliers. Lorna looked amazing and I must say a massive thank you to Emma Buck- Hair & Make-up artist who managed to complete the hair and make-up for the bride, her 4 bridesmaids and both mums in less than 4 hours!! That's surely a new record! Thanks Emma!

Here are a few photos which I took on the day that show the Haslam suite set for the wedding breakfast (above), the floral centrepieces, the wedding cake and the escort card table (below).

All the beautiful flowers were created by Elaine and Louise at The Greenery. A huge thank you for all your help and guidance, the finished designs were exactly as the bride hoped!

Their gorgeous wedding cake was created by Zoe at Delicious Designs- complete with a Battenburg flavored tier... Yum!

The escort card table- A concept which is more popular in America than the alternative place card and seating plan. Each guest had their own card with their table number wrote inside and under each card was a flag with their name on.... Guests were asked to pin their flag on the world map to show where they live. What a great idea if your guests are from all over the world. Although I cant take credit, as it was Lorna's idea!!

It has been fantastic working with Lorna & Bob, finalising all their wedding arrangements to ensure their day was perfect. I received some great compliments from their guests, being called a life saver and even getting a high five for a job well done!
Its been a absolute pleasure.... I wish you all the happiness for the future!

A Warm Welcome...

I have just returned from my first meeting with Bride & Groom-Lorna & Bob.... I have been working with them since June and today was the first time we met!

A warm welcome to Lorna, Bob and their family & friends who have just arrived in Derby after their long journey from the States. They have a busy few days before the wedding on Friday, making the most of their visit to England and the beautiful Derbyshire countryside.

It was great to finally meet everyone and to go over the final details ready for the big day.

Breadsall Priory Hotel & Country Club are playing hosts to Lorna & Bob's wedding reception on Friday afternoon where guests will be treated to an 'traditionally English' inspired day.

It has been fantastic working on behalf of Lorna and Bob, sourcing their flowers, wedding cars and venue decorations. I am looking forward to working alongside the team at Breadsall Priory on Friday and seeing everything come together.

Welcome to the Leopold - The trendy boutique hotel set in the heart of Sheffield city centre, which played host to the wedding reception of Emily & Christian on Friday the 2nd of October 2009.

After the service at Sheffield Cathedral Emily, Christian and their guests made their way to the Leopold Hotel where they were greeted with a champagne & canape reception, shortly followed by a delicious 3 course meal.

Emily & Christian looked fantastic, the gorgeous bride in her fitted tiered ivory gown and the groom in his tailor-made suit and customised converse trainers!

Along with their guests they partied into the night enjoying the sweet treats and 'sing star' in the games room!

Congratulations Fiona & Rob!

Congratulations to Fiona and Rob who celebrated their marriage on Saturday the 5th September 2009 in the beautiful village of Over Haddon, Near Bakewell, Derbyshire.

Fiona & Rob took advantage of an On-The-Day Coordination package, allowing them to hand over all the final arrangements to ensure they could relax and enjoy their special day.

They chose to host their wedding reception in the local village hall.... and what a lovely idea it was! The hall overlooked the rolling Derbyshire countryside and the insides were filled with home-made creations! Everything from the place cards and centre pieces to the wall decorations were hand-made by the bride. Peacock feathers and the gorgeous blue colour were the inspiration throughout... as can be seen on the wedding cake pictured above.

The day was great... especially enjoyed by the children who were entertained for hours by the 'Dizzy Wizard' and the bouncing castle! Thank you to Sarah, Natalie & Sam who looked after the children whilst the adults enjoyed the food, drinks and the speeches...!

Thank you for inviting me to be part of your special day. I hope you and your guests had a lovely day!

What a great weekend for a wedding!

The sun was shining on Saturday as kellee and Steve celebrated their marriage at a beautiful blessing in the orchard at Kellee's mums house. All their family and friends gathered in the garden as they waited for the Kellee and her bridesmaids to emerge from the house and make their way down the rose scattered aisle.

After a beautiful ceremony the bride and groom released a pair of doves before heading up to the marquee to begin the evenings celebrations...!

Their guests were treated to a champagne reception followed by a hog roast and BBQ. Whilst the children enjoyed the bouncy castles, ice creams and the chocolate fountain the adults partied into the early hours!

I must say a massive thank you to all the suppliers involved, there are too many of you to mention, but you all did a fantastic job in helping to create a great wedding.

I had a great weekend at the beginning of August with Maria & Richard as we searched the Derbyshire countryside for their perfect wedding venue. Maria & Richard live in America and have chosen to celebrate their marriage in England next year. The brief for their venue search was 'Beautiful Traditional English Countryside'. They were almost spoilt for choice as Derbyshire is home to many gorgeous hotels and country manors. Maria & Richard were great as they were only here on a flying visit and in the space of four days managed to visit over five venues then decide upon their favorite... We even managed to squeeze in a few consultations with Photographers! They have since returned to America leaving the rest of the planning in my capable hands!

Surprise Party!

It was my sister's 21st birthday at the weekend and I arranged a surprise party for her at Ringwood Hall Hotel. I managed to get all her friends and family to the Hotel before she was due to arrive at 8pm ready for the 'Surprise'!

I have just completed a venue search for Marion & Wac who's wedding is due to take place next July. It has been a lovely project as it's required me to search outside the areas which I usually work in. The search took me to Northamptonshire & Warwickshire where I discovered some gorgeous wedding venues. Marion and Wac have decided upon Sedgebrook Hall-Northampton, pictured above, to house their wedding celebrations next year. Chelsea & Jason's Wedding - 20th June 2009

It was a fantastic day on Saturday as Chelsea & Jason became Mr & Mrs Etienne!

After a beautiful ceremony at West Hallam Church, together with their family and friends they enjoyed a reception at Risley Hall.

The day went perfectly... Everything from the set up of the venue in the morning to arranging the surprise performance for the groom from singer Laura Ige.

Chelsea looked stunning in her Ian Stuart gown and even the dogs dressed up for the occasion!

Everyone was very impressed at how everything from the chair covers to the cake matched.

We had some great comments, especially from the staff at Risley Hall who said the room looked the best it ever has!

The Perfect Dress...

Finding the perfect dress is one of the most important parts of planning your big day....

Well, I am pleased to say that I have two more happy brides, who have both found 'The one'!

I accompanied Fiona, her mother-in-law to be and her friend dress shopping last weekend, we didn't even make it to the third shop as Fiona found 'the one' in the second shop and was over the moon! Her choice is beautiful!

Fiona and Steve's wedding takes place on Friday 30th July 2010...

I also arranged a day of dress shopping for kellee and her mum at some of my favorite bridal boutiques in Chesterfield, where Kellee found her perfect dress! I can't wait to see it...!

Inspiration Story Board

I created this story board for Tara & Matt who's wedding will take place exactly a year to the day - On Saturday the 24th April 2010!

When chatting about colours, themes and decorations with my couples I often find we end up with lots of ideas, pictures and cuttings from magazines. A great way to start to visualise how all the different decorative elements could work together is to collate them all on one board. Straight away you will be able to see the look and feel of your dream wedding start to come through, as all the individual images that are featured obviously inspire you.

Remember to then take your inspiration story board with you to your appointments with your venue, florist etc... to visually explain to them the overall look and feel your are trying to create.

I have had a lovely few weeks with my clients, Nafeesa & Paul visiting lots of beautiful wedding venues. Nafeesa & Paul live in Canada and have decided to celebrate their marriage with their family and friends in their home county of Derbyshire in July next year. They have been here visiting over the Easter holidays so we got together to start the search for the perfect wedding venue! After three days, over 8 venues and lots of cups of coffee later we found the perfect setting for their big day.... Their choice is beautiful!

After a short visit, they have returned to Canada, leaving me to organise everything else...! I am very excited to be part of their wedding plans and after listening to all their initial ideas I know it's all going to look fantastic.... All their ideas are top secret as they want everything from the cake to the decor to be a surprise for their family and friends... My lips are sealed!

In this case, the design of the cake has been the starting point of inspiration for the rest of Chelsea & Jason's wedding, everything from stationary to decor will tie in beautifully. Instant Photographs...

I recently met John from West Bar Photography who is based in Barlow, Derbyshire at the Red Lion wedding fayre. He told me about an instant photo printing machine that he has, basically John will download all the photographs that he captures throughout your wedding day on to the machine then your guests can browse the photos, select their favorites and print them out there and then! Prints start from £4 which includes a frame and the machine is included for free in the wedding photography packages which start from just £350!

Trent FM - Nottingham contacted me a few weeks ago and asked if I would feature in an interview discussing the latest wedding related statisics that show a decline in the number of couples getting married. I happily commented on these statistics...

After chatting to many couples over the last few months regarding how or if the credit crunch is affecting their wedding plans, i'm finding that it's not putting people off getting married all together, instead couples are either setting lower budgets, comprimising on one or two elements of their wedding, putting the date back in order to save more money or reducing the number of guests... as you will all know, feeding your guests is the biggest expense!

"We're on a tight budget, can we still afford your services?"

Yes, my fees will be taken from your total wedding budget as apposed to being an additional cost. Whatever your budget, I will work with you, advising you how to spend and make the most of your money. I work with couples with all different budgets and produce a package that suits their individual needs. I charge for my time, therefore I can do as much or as little for you as required.

"How many couples will you be working with at any one time?"

As i am a full time wedding planner i can comfortably work with anything from 5-30 couples at any one time dependant on the size of their weddings. This allows me to deliver a personal service to each, being available at the other end of the phone at any time or aiming to reply to calls and e-mails within a day. I will only ever attend one wedding a day, again to dedicate my time fully to the couple's wedding.

"Can you get us discounts from suppliers?"

Yes, I have managed to negotiate discounts and deals with many suppliers, from free bridesmaid dresses and tiaras to money off flowers and photography - which in many cases will usually cover the cost of my fees.

"We've got everything sorted but could you just help out on the day?"

Yes, i can come in at any stage, even as close to one month before your wedding. Hand everything over to me and you can relax and enjoy the run up to your special day whilst i finalise all the arrangements, coordinate the suppliers and oversee the day. On-the-day coordination - from £350.

I had a great day yesterday wedding dress shopping with one of my brides, Rachael and her mum, sister and auntie. Rachael had visited lots of bridal boutiques before we met and had tried on all different styles of gowns, I suggested a few bridal boutiques that she hadn't been to and then yesterday in the last shop of the day... she found 'The One'...! So of course we had to celebrate and crack open a few bottles of champagne to toast a very successful shopping trip! I'm not going to say any more... You will all now have to wait to see the pictures after the wedding!

John Preston Flowers Launch Party!

I was kindly invited to the opening launch night of the new John Preston Flowers shop in Friar gate, Derby last week. John Preston, pictured below left, quickly became established as a master florist in Ashbourne, Derbyshire and after over 3 years decided to relocate to a new store. It was a great evening that showcased the fantastic new shop, the seasonal show room and the wedding consultation room, pictured below, where clients can discuss all their floristry needs..! The interior of the new shop is very slick, decorated in white and black which acts as a perfect backdrop for the beautiful flowers. The guide is available free from the Whirlow Grange Wedding Show on Sunday the 22nd Feburary 2009. Whirlow Grange Wedding Show

I was asked by my friends at Choola to model their bridal gowns at the Whirlow Grange wedding fayre on the Sunday the 9th November. As you can see the bridal gowns and bridesmaids dresses are gorgeous and they have lots more available in store so make sure you call in to have a look! The fashion show was held in Whirlow Granges very own chapel which is also licensed for church of England weddings. The beautiful flowers were provided by Katie Peckett and the photographs were taken by AB Photography. The wedding fayre was a great event for 'brides to be' to meet suppliers and to get lots of inspiration for their big day.

Winter Weddings

With the British weather being so unpredictable during the summer months, many couples are now choosing to host their wedding in winter rather than hoping for the perfect summer’s day during the peak wedding season.
Remember the venues that look beautiful in full bloom during the summer look just as picturesque on a frosty winter morning.
When planning your winter wedding be creative with your choice of colour scheme... rather than opting for the traditional winter colours such as reds, greens and gold’s how about the ‘tiffany blue’ colour teamed with white and silver for a fresh, icy colour scheme.
Picture the scene... white decorative twigs covered in twinkle lights, gleaming ice sculptures, silver table decorations and the bride looking gorgeous in a pure white gown accessorised with a cosy shrug.
Why not utilise the festive decorations that most venues will have displayed during the winter months (with their permission of course) by adding extra twinkle lights, flowers or candles to tie in your colour scheme whilst saving yourself the cost of extra decorations.

This is the table plan and gift post box that I created for Lisa & Paul's wedding on the 23rd August 2008. They had already sourced their invites, favors and place cards and decided they would like a table plan and a personalised gift post box to match. The colour scheme for the wedding was black, white and silver and Lisa wanted to incorporate butterflies within the theme.
